Entering a ring game
Just wondering how many Donkharders enter a cash game by posting the big blind right away? Never? Sometimes? Or.... do you always wait for the big blind? Better yet, do you watch the table for a while to get a feel of how the players are playing? Do the stakes matter in your decision? Just curious....

I usually wait until the big blind comes to me. No point in posting a big blind twice!

Re: Entering a ring game
If I'm entering a ring game that I want to play in for a while... like for a few hours or so... I like to scout out some tables. You can do this by comparing what the average pot size is and how many hands per hour are being played. Then I'll sit in and watch at least 4 different tables(sometimes a lot more) and watch long enough to get a feel for what's happening. After I've watched for some time.. I'll pick out the table I like best.... most soft players... players that call a lot...players that are giving up chips easily... etc... just generally watch out for some easy marks... fish.. if you will, and then I'll sit in.
It depends on what is the reason I'm going to play as to how I approach deciding which table to pick out. For instance... the new Tilt promo that is going on. I usually just pick out 2 tables with the smaller pot averages to play in. In this example.. I'm just planning on getting my Tilt point or so and getting out. I do however, like to play on tables that are nearly full. I just like to play full tables better. I play them tight/aggressive and like to capitalize on aggressive players when the situation arises and feel that fuller tables will give me more opportunities to do so.
When I play rings just for the chance to build my bankroll.. I like to take a lot more time and scout a lot of tables before deciding which one to sit in on. Rings can be the best way to build your bankroll.. but they can also eat up a bankroll quickly when the donkeys are hitting the runner runner beats and hitting the river. I play them very tight and try to play good cards to give myself the best chance when I do decide to stay in a hand.
I do agree with waiting until the BB so you don't have to pay twice... I usually will wait until the BB is close to sit in also. Stakes... of course it matters. I don't play any big stakes on line... so micro and small stakes is all you will see me online in. I do, however, play almost always NL(sometimes PL). This way.. I can take advantage of the hands that I am pretty sure to win with. So.. play the rings... it can be a good money maker for you for sure.
