Re: watch out for this cheat
Hi all, first post, and since I'm a paid computer geek I figured why not post here.
In the case of most homes and businesses, if people within the building or room are connecting to the internet through the same router (whether wired or wireless) and internet account, then they will all have the same shared internet IP. The unique local IPs of each computer are private and do not go out over the internet.
There are some exceptions, however:
Also, some sites like PokerStars have no problem with other PC's in the same household with the same IP connecting and playing at the same time, you just can't play at the same table or in the same tourney. My wife has her own Stars account and we both play at the same time, but she's upstairs doing her own thing (usually SnG's), and I'm downstairs in my office doing something else. I made sure to notify Stars before she signed up, to be sure it was okay, and they told me it was fine as long as we didn't play in the same game.

There are some exceptions, however:
- As mentioned, in a multi-dwelling unit like an apartment or dorm, there may be a lot of people with different internet accounts and wireless routers within range of each other. People could conceivably get together and each person hit a different router. These would be virtually impossible to catch as cheaters unless they did something really stupid to identify themselves as such.
- Some universities actually assign each student their own static IP address that follows them around no matter where they plug-in or connect wireless on campus. In that case every PC in the room *would* have different IPs, and again would be nearly impossible to prove as cheaters.

Re: watch out for this cheat
Of cause the sites are tracking the IPs but if you manage to conect through diferent routers (eg WIFI of the neighbor) its no problem to play multiaccounting.

Re: watch out for this cheat
thats pretty interested stuff. after watching truckers video on u tube last night. i stayed on and was checking out all the poker scandals and cheating methods it has. it also mentions pokerstars which i was suprised by. i knew about AP and UB. what it comes down to it. there are scumbags everywhere trying to take your money whether on the internet or in person. so i guess we should all take that old warning a little more seriously "BUYER BEWARE"

Cheating ....
Now that's one thing that will get my attention.
If you have an opportunity to report this kind of activity, PLEASE DO. If you can take advantage of the collusion then take every chip there is to take. I have no issue playing one on one and if I loose then so be it, but if I loose because others are cheating, NOT COOL.
Please do not tolerate cheating.
