Re: T.B.D.'s $10,000 Challenge
well, I am in 2k freeroll tomorrow, top prize should be about $375, $2.80 if you place in the money hehe....
my problem with tournaments is either i am card dead at the beginning or middle. and i have a great ability to be on the losing end of sets over sets battles.

Don't worry, we haven't lost anything.
Yet.
The missing $1.10 has been used for the buy-in to the 3 for 1. I am going head on over to my home table, the $0.02/$0.05 game to kill some time before the Donkhard Freeroll. I'll update again when I leave the table.
In case you're wondering what happened last night in the live game, my wife won back every dollar I lost, so we ended up with a free night on the town.

We've gone down a bit, but we're still going!
Place: Doyle's Room
Date: September 22nd, 2008
Current Bankroll: $4.07
Been a while since I've had the enough time to report what's been going on, so here's the latest update.
So far I have donked some more in the ring, donked OTM (outside of the money) in 2 Donkhard Freerolls, the $250 winner take all of the 3 for 1, and just outside the money (34th or so with 30 paid) in the $100 overlay of the 3 for 1. So the total damage has brought our BR down to $4.07. I am about to enter another ring game as soon as I'm done with this post.
And don't forget that I've got the last of the 3 for 1 games coming up on September 27th: a $1,000 guaranteed event. I typically run around a 30% cash rate in tournies. If I cash in the $1,000 game that would put me at 20% over the last 5 games.
I'd say I'm due.

Wednesday=Wins-day
Place: Doyle's Room
Date: September 24th, 2008
Chapter 1: The Day
Today my wife took me to a place she just recently discovered called El Dorado Hills. There we found the most beautiful home for sale. It was a model, fully furnished, beautifully decorated, and the backyard was a freakin golf course. Literally. Well it wasn't all golf course. You have to pass the private pool and waterfall to get to the golf course. The view from the master suite's balcony was simply amazing.
The more time I spend here in California, the less desire I have to go anywhere else. With a crib like that, I can't say I'd mind making this state my permanent home.
Chapter 2: The Prequel
I got up early and got ready for the day. My wife slept in until about 11:30. When she got up I was out here doing some work. She asked if I'd like to go somewhere with her today, but it would be a surprise.
"Sure," I told her.
She said she'd be ready in about an hour, so I decided to kill that hour at Doyle's Room. I sat for a while, caught a pocket pair, and called a raise to come in. 3 of us see the flop. I flop middle set on a straightening, flushing board. Pre-flop raiser bets, other player calls, I go all-in and get action. Bang! Set holds and the bankroll grows.
2 hands later I catch Ten Ten in the hole and flop another set. My opponent comes off with a HUGE overbet, so I shove all-in again and get action, again. Set holds again and the bankroll grows.
About 4 hands later I catch JJ. Flop comes down Js 8d Ts. Opponent bets, I shove all them chips into the pot again. Can you guess if I got action? Answer's yes! Turn comes another Ten and the river drops a blank. He shows Ace Ten for trips, and I scoop another pot with a boat.
Shortly thereafter my wife comes out of the bedroom and asks me if I'm ready to go. So I left the table and headed up to the El Dorado Hills.
Here's how we finished:

Re: T.B.D.'s $10,000 Challenge
i lost my $5 and change there to my classic hand killer
Ace Four...
I hate A-4
It beats my ak aq and aj
i literally have been beat by a4 about 20 times in the past month with superior aces...
it's that one hand i have grown to hate..
anyhow though, i graduate my computer course monday (hopefully), and will hopefully have a decent job soon, and be able to flow some money online, where i dont have to make a decision on one hand to get wiped.

Re: T.B.D.'s $10,000 Challenge
Well good luck to you on the job search next week, 10Zav01. And congratulations on your graduation. Don't forget to take a little time to celebrate your achievement.
Playing with a larger bankroll behind you always makes for a much easier game. When a player's bankroll has enough money behind it to sustain some losses, it removes alot of the unnecessary pressure to win and makes the losses easier to swallow. And that's important to playing successful poker
Some simple psychology of the game that we can all control is our own mindstates. Generally speaking, playing in a better mood helps you to stay more focused and avoid making rash mistakes. On the other hand, when we're in a bad mood for whatever reason, many of us have the tendency to tilt. Although we can't always control our moods, we can control when we sit at or leave the table.
With the $10K Challenge, I am running with a very limited bankroll, which could affect how I play if not for a strict adherence to a bankroll management strategy.
As of right now, I am in a great mindstate to play some poker right now, so I am heading over to Doyle's Room to attempt to bring us a little closer to $10,000.

Re: T.B.D.'s $10,000 Challenge
well i have some exciting news. now i am not getting my hopes too high up. but monday is my last day of school. and my teacher friday asked me if i wanted a job installing routers. starts at $40,000. shit that would easily get me back into ring games online, and i am 32 in october, i figure if i had this job until i am 36ish, i could amass a decent starting roll and move somewhere where i could play live
lol i could challenge the big donk to fastest man to $10,000... with a $500 head start if this happens

Re: T.B.D.'s $10,000 Challenge
That's great news 10Zav01. Let me know what happens.
Quick reminder to everyone, tomorrow (Saturday) is my big $1,000 3 for 1 freeroll, and I am past due on a tourney cash. Let's hope for a big boost to the bankroll tomorrow.
I'll be cleaning my mom-in-laws rain-gutters out tomorrow, but I'll bring my laptop so I don't miss the game. I might be playing this one from the rooftops, but I'll be there.
Wish me luck.

Running cold in the tournies
Place: Doyle's Room
Date: September 28th, 2008
Still no luck in the tournament department. Yesterday was a bust and the cold streak continues. I also went down a bit in the ring. Maybe today is the day I'll break the run of no-cashing in the Donkhard Freeroll.
Good luck to all who play today!

Hello all. It's been a while since I've checked in on the Challenge, but I'm happy to report that the tourney cold streak has finally broken and the bankroll has grown some more. Things went well early in the tournament, and before I knew it I was sitting on over 18,000 chips with the blinds at only 30/60. From there it was pretty easy sailing into the money. I have also played a couple of ring games and managed to grind out a little more icing for the cake, and we're now up over $16.
So for those of you who don't already know, I'm still in Vegas, getting our house out here ready to sell. I've played a little bit of poker here and there when I've found the time, but for the most part it's been work and sweat. My wife stayed back in California. I find myself getting homesick, not for home or for California, but for my wife. I miss her terribly and have found that each day that passes makes me work harder and faster the next. If I don't get this work done soon, I'll likely call a contractor and jump on the next plane out of here.
In the meantime, I've got some work to bust out here. I'll be back online after it gets dark. You'll find me at the reliable old nickel table, hopefully adding more chips to the bankroll.
Oh that's right, almost forgot. I'll actually be back in about 6 hours for the Donkhard Dollar on Pitbull. If you haven't already done so, sign up at Pitbull Poker and use the bonus code DONKHARD to get a free $10, that way you can play the Donkhard Dollar on the house. Good luck to all who play in that one.

On a run
Place: Doyle's Room
Date: October 5th, 2008
Today is Football Day. I'll be spending most of the day doing the indoor chores I've been putting off intentionally, the painting, cabinet & counter installs, etc., so that I'll be able to watch the games while I work.
I did manage to squeeze in a couple of tournaments: the Welcome to Doyle's Room Freeroll and the Quickdraw Freeroll, and cashed in both of them!
This morning when I woke up I played a little ring game action while I was posting and managed to grind up the roll even further. Turned out I was playing a game for "Euros" rather than "American $", which was a nice surprise when I left the table and ended up with more than I thought due to the nice exchange rate.
I'm signed up for the Quickdraw today, but may not have the time to play it with the list of chores I've got in front of me.
So here's where we're at now:
