donk hard notices Empty donk hard notices

Post by mangvil Wed Feb 18, 2009 1:28 pm

whats the deal with these two hour notices how the heck am I suppost to just randomly check my email at the right time and just magically be there to sing in to these turnies? I mean really I understand not releasing the password till then but hows about a notice at least a day in advance you know something like, "hey, if your interested tomarrow we are having a fre roll if ya want to play check your mail or visit the forum around this time" cause really the only time I've evn gotten close to playing in on of these turnies was when I first signed in to your site (my day one here) but didn't make that one cause of the same reason oddly enough, it took me about an hour to find the actual password for turie I wanted to enter... any thoughts or suggestions?

Well... judging from your sign up date.... 20 Dec. and your number of posts... 2(now) I'd say that answers it.

If your having trouble navigating the site for freerolls(dates, times, etc.)... click on The Big Donk link right under where it says TOP POSTERS. You should be able to find them in there. Click on the link at the bottom right when you get there and click "all posts by The Big Donk. Perhaps TBD can help you if you have any further trouble. Neutral

The Big Donk usually post the password right before the game as to keep the scammers out. which is a good idea. i like many am on the site everyday. so put the site in your favorites and you will be able to check in everyday to see whats going on. the changes in passwords are in one of The Big Donks post and are there to make the tournaments better. so you need to get more active in posting. i believe this is the only site that releases passwords without a # of qualiity post. and thats a good thing. try the other forums and see if you get the passwords right after joining with minimal post.... thay won't give you nothing,

i don't mind seeing the pw tightened up. and as far as some of the other forums, there is 1 that requires 50 post to get pw. i still haven't satisfied that and probably won't soon. i'm a member of about 20 forums and do occasional posting in every one but 50 post sounds like overkill to me. i would have to live on that site to do that. reason i am a member of lots of forums is b/c i like reading lots of articles on strategy and trying to find and read stuff i haven't read. i don't play every tourney over here but i do play some. good luck out there ya'll

About the only response I have for that is to say that short notice is (even if only slightly) better than no notice. I realize it won't benefit everyone, but at least those who get the e-mail in time will be able to play.

I don't usually send out the notifications that close to gametime. I do typically try to give out more advanced notice. Occasionally, I drop the ball. When I realize due to low enrollment that I have, like a doofus, failed to notify everyone about the game earlier, I try to get the message out as quickly as possible. Better late than never.

It's tough though, because, as Niccolo Machiavelli pointed out in "The Prince," you simply can't please all of the people all of the time. I get all types of messages in response to the timing of the e-mail notifications of upcoming donkhard tournaments. Some, like you, agree that some of the messages are sent to late. When the messages are sent out earlier, I often get complaints from people who are wondering why I'm notifying them of events that are hours or days away.

Your suggestion about sending them out a day or so in advance seems to be the best route to go, and I aim for that as often as possible

You bring up another interesting point here. I do receive more requests for people who are logged-in and simply looking for the location of passwords than anything else.

There are tons of categories on this forum. While this can actually make specific information easier to find for those who know their way around, it can be quite daunting for those who are new.

I've definitely put some thought into revamping the forum, especially regarding passwords, but haven't come up with many good solutions. One possibility I was kicking around was maybe PMing the passwords to members shortly before gametime. The drawback is that a big change like that could cause alot of confusion to those who have been here for a long time.

For those who have managed to find their way through the maze that is donkhard to find the passwords, I would suggest bookmarking or favoriting the "Passwords" category in your browser. You'll want to be sure to bookmark or favorite the whole "passwords" category and not the post for a specific tourney, as the posts are dynamic and ever changing.
