Another bit of history.. ..40 years ago today with no fanfare and only 20 people watching,Len Kleinrock and the nerds of UCLA began tests on a system of interconnecting two computers to transfer data directly between them thru a 15 foot gray cable.That was the begining of the Arpanet network project which was soon joined by Stanford Research institute,UC of Santa Barbara and the University of Utah.Over the following years in the obscurity of research and experimentations without the constraints of commercial intrests or regulatory govt. entitys, many more nerds brought more inovation and ideas to the program.Until in the early 1970's when the TCP/IP communications protacals were introduced which allowed multiple networks to be connected ,and the internet was truly born.Then came the concept of E:mail which was introduced useing those networks and protacals which lead to the need in the 80's of a addressing system with suffix's like .com/.org etc.
And still most people did not know what it was,how to use it or even have access to it.Then in the early 90's British physicist Tim Bernerslee invented "the web" a subset of the internet that makes it easier to link networked resources from across far locations around the world (that now well known prefix for World Wide Web )....and then released it to the world for free !! With that final peice in place and the new size,power and availabilty of personel home computers,better international communication systems,main frame system servers hubs and the peoples new awarness of the abilitys of the technology... the internet,the web and cyber space took off with a vengence.... with a explossion of new innovations,programing,applications and a plethara of new .com/.net sites(like Poker ) for us to enjoy.
