Thank you, Beck Taxi

Post by Not Like Me on Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:58 am

For ruining what was otherwise a perfectly good Honda Civic.

Taking the car to my autobody shop tomorrow, estimate from the police officer was $2,500 including a damaged front fender, bumper, hood, headlights, alignment and who knows what else. I'm fine and so was my passenger but I just spent the last three hours at the collision center and walking home at 6 in the morning.

Not a good evening, extremely pissed off.

I went to grab a coffee with my friend Alexandra. I'm driving east on
Dawes Rd and it's like 2:30 in the morning. I'm following behind this
cab and I'm four to five car lengths back. I'm going the speed limit
(40km/h). The cab driver pulls to the side of the road without
signaling, usually no big deal. So I slow down a little and proceed
with caution around him. Without signaling again or any warning,
fucking guy busts a u-turn in front of my car when I had no chance of
stopping. I tried an avoidance maneuver to the left but since Dawes is
one-way each lane, he was taking up both lanes. Ended up smashing into
his front fender thinking WTF are you doing buddy?!?

When I got out of the car I was ready to beat him into a pulp because I just
seen pieces of my bumper laying all over the ground. I go, "so why the
fuck didn't you signal or check your mirrors/blind spot?" Know what the
fuckin guy says? "Oh well, my passenger (yes, he had a passenger) told
me I passed his building, so I was turning around...we're under a lot
of tension and stress in this job...and I'm very sorry"

Then he tries to pay me in cash so his insurance rates don't skyrocket. I'm
like okay, give me $5000 right now and I forget about it, otherwise I'm
going to the collision center right now and reporting your stupid ass. I reported him.

Well, this fucking blows.

After having, maintaining and loving this car for the past three years, the insurance adjuster informed me that it was not worth repairing the damages and therefore the car has been written off as of today.

He is going to make me an offer on Monday but that will not bring my poor Civic back and unfortunately money is a little tight right now so I may not even have a vehicle to drive until the summer.

It's times like this I really wish I had a punching bag to release my anger and stress.

even after they consider it totalled not, you should still be able to keep the car. find yourself a grease monkey and start looking in the junkyards for parts. they should cost way under what they give you. and if you can not find a grease monkey to do it. buy a Chilton's manuel and start off slow taking it apart. you are young, you can do it. I've done it to my wrecks a few times. when you get the parts put back on get an alignment and paint job and sell it. that way you should make your money back or keep it as a spare... just thought I'd give you some advice. It doesn't look totalled from the pictures..... and think that it is repairable. Good luck.
