How to go from cashing 40th to final table...?

Post by falcon on Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:02 am

Hi guys,

I have been playing on stars for a while I prefer MTT's and cash in the $1.10 80% of the time usually about

4000 players. I'm finding I'm struggling to break the top 40 though, usually between 50-120th.

I'm not sure what happens the blinds go up and I find myself soon getting short stacked. I don't know

whether its simply im getting outplayed in these latter stages.

Should I loosen up in the latter stages playing less than premium hands? I end up having to make a stand

when desperate with something like QJo and more often than not coming out the wrong side of the hand.

I know I haven't posted any hand stats but I have only just got hold of PT3 and I currently have approx

1000 hands logged in it.

any advice how to make the jump to getting to the bigger money would be really appreciated.

thanks

Early in a tournament you wanna play premiums and try to play as little out of position as possible. As you progress in the tournament, and the blinds and antes increase you should be opening up a lot more. I am working on this myself and the results are starting to show a little better. Another thing that I am trying to work on is punishing people close to the bubble. Play the bubble aggressively. Everyone wants to cash at this point and you can pick up a LOT of pots uncontested. This will mean more chips in your stack as the blinds go up. Also pound the periods of pay jumps too. Someone might be just looking to move up a paygrade and fold their hand to a raise hoping someone else will bust out first. Also, think of what hands you shove when your stack gets kind of low. KQ, KJ, A4 suited...... Then if you see someone shove with a short stack, you can call with hands that you might normally not call an all in with and have a good chance to pick up the pot and bust a player.

What both South Bay and g.o.d. have said are what it seems you need to try .. or at least more of. You might be playing that way and just are getting the same results, but it sounds like you need to be more aggressive at those times and you need to not be afraid to get your chips in when you think you have the best hand. It is quite possible you will get knocked out of a good many tourneys playing this method, but you will likely find yourself at more final tables than you have ever been able to before. If you are consistently just getting into the money, it is likely that you are shying away from some hands you should be playing. Watch those levels of payout like SB said and get more aggressive with good timing and you will have more final table success. Good luck!

some very good points /advice here-- sb point being a style i try to play which is more pushing later then early-- and steeling blinds near the bubble is so easy and can produce you alot of chips with out seeing cards-sure sometimes your going to get called and lose but it wont be by the short stacks--another point is watch how the short stacks are playing in other games-are you playing like them- my guess is you are playing the same way- which you can fix easy. Also we all need to bubble and get top 20 finishes or finish 11th sometimes to appreciate /learn how to final table. keep them good finishes up and you be be at a final table with a win soon--hope this helps

Lock me up!!! Lol. Truthfully I like stealing pots more than I like winning them at showdown. I hate to say it, cause i think he is a total barney, but I am like Jamie Gold in that regard...

Bonuses in Online Casinos have long been an integral part of gameplay. Casino bonus tries to encourage any and all players, but most of all bonuses casino gives players who actively play for money. Players are assigned to bonuses in different ways, perhaps, we can divide them into 3 groups: players who do not like the bonuses, the players who love the bonuses and players who love them, so that only deals with getting bonuses at the casino - a "bonus hunters" ( hunters bonus). In general, bonuses casino needed, especially to a player, got the game in an online casino as much as possible of positive emotions, because the more money in the account, the larger you can make bets and play longer.
