The Big Donk's Absence Empty The Big Donk's Absence

Post by The Big Donk Tue Dec 16, 2008 3:41 am

It seems that my lack of activity has gone noticed by some. My reason for being nearly absent, all but a ghost for the most part, is as follows:

I decided to play in the '08 America Poker Classic at the Horseshoe in beautiful Elizabeth, Indiana. I spent the last week there playing in various events and side games. As far as the tournament goes, not so good. Airfare and accommodations came pretty close to the winnings. The good news is that I've always been better in the ring than in the tourney action, and because of that little fact, I did end up coming home with more than I spent on the trip. Whew! I also had a little time to visit with some old friends in MI and Illinois.

To those in the North, it was so wonderful to finally be able to spend some time with you all again and catch up on old times. Looking forward to seeing y'all out here in California so we can do it again. I'm holding you to it!

I'll be on some more tomorrow. Looking forward to chatting with you all then. Off to bed for now, the wife's callin' Wink

Til next time, good luck to you!

TBD

seriously though ... i looked at a couple of pages describing the event, and can see why you were interested to go. i haven't been to any major live tournament with hundreds of players, but i imagine the crowd dynamic is similar to music festivals and shows when comparing large to small. there have been a few large events which were very unique and remain as distinguished memories, but most were more generic and lacked significance (or maybe that's is there significance ... lol).

anyway, the buy-in, blinds and chipstacks all seemed reasonable ... were all the field sizes around 100? damn, now you've got me curious about this event ... lol. care expand on the previous post and type a short summary of the experience there?

The events varied, but yeah, around the hundred range for the most part. Game one had over 150 of us in it and a good $40K+ in the prizepool. 1st won over $10K, not bad for $300. A guy I had played with last year in the Tahoe WSOP Circuit finished 2nd at the Mid Am Classic for over $5K. I remember him having a pretty good finish in a H.O.R.S.E game back in Tahoe, too. Think he also finished 2nd in that one if memory serves me correctly. With all the drinking I did last night, I'm not completely sure if I should be trusting my brain right now. lol!

I had an abso-tootly great time, although I played like s*&% in the tournies. My wife played in the ladies event. They only had 30 or so players in there, and she did pretty well in that game. She managed to accumulate a pretty big stack on a run of a few good hands. I thought she might take that tourney down, but eventually the blinds caught up to her stack. Still, she played a great game.

Happy Holidays to you, too, neverfoldaduc. Happy Holidays to all!
