A-J offsuit all in vs 45 suited Empty A-J offsuit all in vs 45 suited

This is my last hand in a recent tourney where top 27 got paid. I finished in 22nd even after playing horribly and I guess it's better than losing on the bubble...but still sucks that I lost before the final table. Anyway, not a bad beat or anything since the BB was getting 2.5 to 1 for a call, but of all things, I would've rather lost to a made hand or a bigger hand than 4-5suited! I was about a 60-40 favorite, but oh well...I think I just need some closure Laughing So here it is.

A-J offsuit all in vs 45 suited Empty bad beats

Post by chefjimmy Thu Feb 12, 2009 1:17 pm

it happens i think being short stacked like you were you made the correct call,i,m very surprised to see preflop odds that high...i personally dont make callswith 4-5 suited near final tables but their are many who do...best you can do is hope to catch him on another table another time...even thos he was in 2nd i see as a bad hand and i,m betting he,ll do it again...good luck.

Yeah, with my short stack, my all in was basically a raise of 3.5x the BB. If I had a little bit more (maybe 5BB?), I may not have been called and I would've picked up the blinds and antes. I went back and calculated the preflop percentages on pokerstove and it was something like 58.9 to 41.1 or something along those lines.

A-J offsuit all in vs 45 suited Empty odds not that great

Post by sharkbait Thu May 21, 2009 12:58 pm

pre flop odds here arent as good as u think . the odd of AJos and 45 suited are not as far off as u would think. 58.265% against 41.735% i did this with poker stove. just trying to help out. u were ahead but not so far ahead. of course i'm never going all in with 45 suited either. another thing to think about is that he probably had no idea the odds or was he thinking about it. but again in the long run you'll come out ahead with that same play. just not that big of a suck out. but that being said the fact u hit ur jack and he makes trips on the river .. that sucks. that would truly burn. probably a good thing it was a tourney and not a cash game. or else u might have tilted off the house after that. he was only 11 percent to win after the turn.. so yeah he caught a one in ten miracle. hey we're all poker players here u should know that when the odds are in your favor 9 to 1 and ur short stacked. No . the river is about to drown u . affraid

Just think of it this way - if you were in his shoes, you likely would have called the raise as well. Didn't cost him a whole lot to try and knock a player up and (hopefully) move up in the money. It happens, but you made the right play. Better luck next time!
