Question For You Donks Empty Question For You Donks

Post by Not Like Me Tue Dec 22, 2009 8:02 pm

Quick setup for the question:

It's early in a tournament and you are dealt wired 7's. Blinds are 25/50, and UTG limps into the pot. You raise to 225 sitting three from UTG.

The player to your left smooth calls. It's folded to the button who raises to 600 total. Everyone folds to the player on your right. He calls the extra 500.

The pot stands at 1550 and it's an extra 375 to call.

If I did my math correctly, it's basically 4-1 to call here.

Is this a no-brainer call, or should you conserve those chips for the later stages?

It depends on how many chips your have, and how many chips they have. If you have them both covered by a long shot, you may want to call here. If they have you covered, maybe it would be wiser to fold.

But then again, I suck at poker so don't take my advice lmao.

This is when I get in trouble usually and say f--k it push all in and see if I can hit my set and if I lose I go back to watching football or whatever sport is in season. Unless it is a buy in of $5 or more than I'm limping in with mt 7's anyway and folding with the big raise.

I think Nic said it best "But then again, I suck at poker so don't take my advice lmao."

i like to take my risks later in tournaments. if your getting 4 to 1 odds and your chances of flopping a set are less than 4 to 1 then you fold in my opinion. i like the raise that you made, raising is good poker, calling raises is bad poker unless you have a great read on your opponent.

Well.. I don't know if it's a freeroll or a buy in, but I don't take a lot of chances early, usually. I like the raise you played most times, but all I know is that it's early. Would like to know what my chip stack is but generally speaking I might have raised more than that or not at all. I like to try to limp in early if possible with small PP's and set em or forget em, or fold. If I decide to raise with the 77... it would be a bigger raise to trim down the stayers hopefully. The position I'm in here doesn't seem advantageous to do much.

Question For You Donks Empty Re: Question For You Donks

Should have set this one up a little better come to think of it.

The tournament in question was the Daily Dollar, so obviously a $1 entry fee.

It's a big stack tournament, so every player starts with 3,000 chips.

At this point I still had about 2,800 chips left and as Dats said previously, I was trying to thin out the field.

Once the pot was re-raised and smooth called, I tossed the hand. I figured unless I spiked a set on the flop I would basically be out of position and have to toss it.

Sure enough, the flop came 7 - 4 - 4! I was hoping to justify this play in my own mind but I can see the case for calling or folding.

Sadly, the pot ballooned to 9,500 without my extra chips in there. In hindsight, one player had AQ and the other was holding 9's. Unless that 7 comes I probably toss it on the flop anyway.

Daily Dollar.
Uggggggggggggggg.
In the Daily Dollar I would have taken the chance.
Either way I would have made the wrong choice for the Daily Dollar is like a slot machine for me.
Just keep putting in my Dollar.
