Microgaming IP block for 13 banned states in the US Empty Microgaming IP block for 13 banned states in the US

Post by The Big Donk Thu Oct 23, 2008 12:53 pm

Microgaming is going to put in an IP block for the 13 banned states in the US. This means that if a player logs on with an IP from any of these states they will not be able to enter the poker client.

This is happening for ALL Microgaming rooms, including Eurolinx, Doyle's Room, and others.

The banned states are:

1. Illinois
2. Indiana
3. Kentucky
4. Louisiana
5. Michigan
6. Nevada
7. New Jersey
8. New York
9. Oregon
10. South Dakota
11. Washington
12. Wisconsin
13. Utah

Things to note:

* This is not a new rule, just sudden enforcement of an old one.
* Players can still play in the Sportsbook.
* Players can still register from the banned states but will not be able to play in the Poker client or in the Casino.
* The IP blocking service Microgaming is using also has a proxy detector, so players will no longer be able to use a proxy to hide their IPs.

Bummer! Its too bad that everyone is afraid to let us washingtonians gamble online...If it wasn't a an issue of the RCW's of the state I'd say everyone is afraid to play against us.

Thanks for the info. I had downloaded Doyle's Room but have not played there yet. I guess I may as well just uninstall it. I had heard that a lot of people like that one too. Bummer

Microgaming IP block for 13 banned states in the US Empty UGH

Post by bestoboth Sun Nov 09, 2008 12:52 am

Being in one of the 'banned' states for a while now, I just gave up looking for other rooms and stuck with FTP and PS... glad I did now!

Will players lose bankrolls? How is that going to work?

I wonder how long it will be before they take all of our gaming away from us!?

*cringes at the thought of a life with no online poker*

Microgaming IP block for 13 banned states in the US Empty Illinois is my home

Post by awry13 Wed Nov 12, 2008 2:03 pm

Illinois also has a law that makes it impossible for casinos here to have poker tournaments. There are poker rooms at most of the casinos but only cash games are available. It has something to do with the add on fee that the casino gets being against Illinois gaming law. Occasionally a casino will have a 100% payout tournament but not often. I have to drive 2 hours to Indiana to find a decent poker room.
