going on tilt
I guess you I can say I am dealing a "stamina problem" in poker tourneys. I do well early usually. when I get hit hard with a bad beat by someone who should have folded that hits runner runner puts me in a spiral.....if I don't catch myself I dive bomb hard, Start playing badly. Any suggestions?

Re: going on tilt
What I'll do on occasion is just get up and walk away. I realize that alot of people feel they can't do this in a poker tournament, because you will continue to lose money to the blinds. The way I see it though is even if I blind off half my stack, that's only half of what I would have lost to the TILT monster. When I take my little breaks, I tend to focus my thoughts on the blinds, and how many blinds I have left in my stack or will likely have when I return. If I'm shortstacked, I'll consider the hands that I'll look for when I return that I be looking to shove all in with. If that doesn't cool me off, I'll think about something totally poker unrelated, like what I want for dinner, or maybe play a game of Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty, Black, etc. Those games are some great ways to release aggression.
If I'm playing on online tournament when this happens, I'll often click the sit out button and come here to the forum to post something. I try to post something positive and constructive, and not write anything about the bad beat I just took, because the idea is to get my mind off the bad beat, not to stew in it and get myself steamed all over again.
A tactic I'll use when I don't want to leave the table is a little trick I learned from Phil Gordon. I simply pretend that it was me who just hit that lucky little suckout and I just took down the big pot. As I'm daydreaming about what I'm going to do with my winnings, I'll do alot of folding, because I want to protect all those chips I just won!

I couldn't agree more. You have to get the beat out of your head quickly. One can't let it get them off their game. It's important to be able to take beats in the online poker world. They come often and if you can't deal with them quickly. You will find yourself out of whatever game you were playing.

Re: going on tilt
i dont tilt anymore, people who watch me play think i might. but i do something altogether bad on an equal. i get into weird moods where i just like to gamble it up. play too many hands, play out of position, the works... never get mad losing hands...unless i am just in general irritable that day.
im more of a cash game junkie, i think what tournament players forget is that you're on those tables a long time. and you freak out with the blinds and all. but perhaps play more cash games... they have increased my stamina in tournaments a great deal.
