LA Poker Classic Empty LA Poker Classic

Post by SouthBay1 Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:50 pm

Just found out last night I am getting $855 back on my taxes after my fees and everything. I decided that I am going to go play the $125 buy in tournament at the LA Poker Classic. The prize pool is GTD at 300k with first being GTD at 100k. Any of you in the LA area may want to go play it. They have 4 day ones. 2/2 2/3 2/4 2/5. I don't know how many days it will run after that. They do NOT allow rebuys, but they will allow you to re-enter on a subsequent day if you bust out on one of the previous days. I am only putting up 125 myself. If I bust out I bust out, but at least I gave it a shot. I haven't looked to see what the starting chips are or anything but i am sure it will be a decently structured event. Hope to see some of you there. SB

Yes Rann. That shit took For Freakin EVER!!! Anyhow, I was looking for you the last few days but couldn't get you. today is the day. I was going to try to hit the 1pm start time, but seeing as how it is now almost noon, and I have a few things I gotta do before I go, I think I am going to hit it at 6pm. I am going to try some new shit and see if it works. Ultra tight in the beginning and then I am going to open it up early when everyone else is still playing somewhat tight. I want alwyas overlook the tightness of the players early in a live tourny. Today I am going to do my best to exploit this.

LA Poker Classic Empty Re: LA Poker Classic

Post by SouthBay1 Thu Feb 03, 2011 12:57 am

Ok. i just got back. Here it goes. I sat down about 15 minutes late. About 5 hands into it I pick up A-10 of hearts. I raise to 125 and the guy 2 seats to my left shoves. He has about half my stack. Everyone folds and I think about it and fold my hand face up. It is too early and it was the first hand I had gotten involved in and I didn't want to have to dig myself out of a hole early. He told me later that he had AK of spades. WHEW!!!! I fold every hand for about 10 hands straight ( told you guys I was going to play tight in the beginning) and pick up A 10 suited in clubs. I raise again, this time to 225 since the blinds had gone up. The guy directly to my left calls and the guy to his left shoves all in. Then another guy calls all in for less. Both blinds fold and I have both all ins covered by about 850 in chips. I reshove and the first called folds. The two shovers show 77 and 33. The guy who called my raise said he folded 77, and the guy in the small blind folded 33 LOL. The door card is an ace and I knock out two guys and my stack is now 5850. Two hands later I pick up 1010 and raise again to 225. I get 4 callers. The flop came 988 rainbow. It gets checked around to me and I bet 950. Everyone folds. I fold for a complete round and pick up 1010 again. I once again raise preflop and get one caller. The flop comes AK4 rainbow. The caller checks to me, I bet, he folds. A few hands later I get 1010 AGAIN!!! I raise preflop and get only one caller. The flop comes AA9 with two diamonds. Caller checks, I check. Turn crad is Qs. He bets 600. I think about it for a minute and study him. I decide to raise. I raise him 1600 more. He tanks and then shoves for a lot. I have him covered but I can't call. He later told me he had A7 HH. I get KJ off in the SB a little while later and the flop is QJ5. Everyone checks to me, I bet, everyone folds. I don't play another hand for about 30 mins outside of the blinds. Then they break our table. i sit at my new table and the blinds are at 75/150. I am BB two hands after sitting and have about 3k in chips. In my BB i get 22 and everyone limps so I check. flop comes all hearts and SB and me check, a guy bets 350, SB and myself both fold and bettor shows the ace of hearts. I fold for two full rounds. Q5, Q7, K6, 10 4, over and over I keep getting this crap. I get down to 2475 in chips and the blinds are now 100/200. The BB is now my turn and I look down to see QQ. UTG player calls the BB. 2 players fold and there is another limper. It folds around to the button who raises to 750. SB folds and I snap shove. UTG player tanks and counts his chips. I have him coverd by about 500. He thinks and thinks and finally folds. Second limper calls my all in, as does the button. I show my hand to the UTG player as he is out of the hand and he whispers that he folded A9. Flop comes down A74 with two diamonds. First player to act shoves all in and the button snap calls all in. First guy shows AK, button shows AQ. So the UTG player folds one ace. These guys both have an ace, and the fuking case ace is the God damn door card?!?!?! And if that isn't enough, the button has one of my two outs. I brick out on the turn and river and my tournament is done. I am disapointed with the result of this tournament, but I am happy with the way I played it. I got my money in good and got unlucky. Today was the first starting day and you are allowed to buy back in for the next three days. I talked to my fiance and she said that she wouldn't mind if I went to the casino close to the house to play the littel rebuy tourny that they have there. she said that if I cash in it (which I do A LOT) then she would drive me back to Commerce to buy back into one of the other starting days. I am going to see if this is a possibility for tomorrow. If I decide to do this, I'll let you guys know.
Oh yeah, I am also pissed because I could have gotten a free LAPC t-shirt and hat if I had asked for it. I found this out when we had walked all the way back to the car and I didn't feel like walking back to get one. hopefully if I do well in the little rebuy and make it back to the LAPC I'll remmeber to pick one up.

I'd go but the rest of my tax refund is reserved for groceries and such. I only allocated 125 for the tourny and i promised i wouldn't spend over that. Just so you know, they pay the top 10%. So if there are 500 people in your heat and you place better than 50th you will get paid that day. Also, the guy on the phone that told me that they play down to 27 players was wrong. You play down to 9. Top 9 from each heat move onto day 2....Good luck over there man. do better than I did.....
