2008 WSOP Main Event Coverage Empty 2008 WSOP Main Event Coverage

Post by ryodejaneiro Tue Sep 09, 2008 2:08 pm

It looks like the WSOP section isn't getting much attention, so I figured I'd start a new thread in hopes it might spark some discussion.

Has anyone been following the 2008 Main Event coverage? It's too bad ESPN's only covering a very small amount of plays. Last week was the first coverage with the first hour being Day 1a and the second hour Day 1b. So I guess, tonight we'll see Day 1c and 1d - am I smart or what tongue

I think the most memorable part was Day 1a (I think) when the river came an ace of diamonds and one guys shoves all in with quad aces but the other guy made the royal flush - wow - Lon McEachern said the odds of quad aces and royal flush in the same hand is 1 in 2.7 billion.

For anyone who missed it - here's link to the clip of that hand: Royal Flush vs Quad Aces
Anyways, any other thoughts guys?

I would shoot myself in the head. $10000 and to lose like that, yeah, I'd put one in myself.

10000 in nothing to die for, that kind of money can be made in a day and lost the next. One player made 40 million play craps, I could wrong about the game and turned around and lost it back. A gun might work on the one Very Happy

You're right, it was craps - I can't imagine making 40 million and then losing it all and then going back out and continuing to play. That's one hard core gambler! I think that guy's name was Archie Karas, so if you google his name, I'm sure you can find the facts.

Now was it just me or was the Day 1c and 1d coverage somewhat of ordinary and not exciting?

It was
interesting to see Mike Matusow so thin and acting un-Matusow like though. No incredible hands like the royal flush from what I
recalling seeing.

I agree, it was very ordinary and not much there to keep my attention. The most interesting part was the interview Archie Karas. I still can't believe someone could lose that kind of money in 2 and a half years. That is some serious gambling.

So on to Day 2 - nothing too exciting again although Chau Giang hit a straight flush to beat out a set of kings. I'm not sure why I'm enamored with these big hands but then again, there wasn't anything particularly entertaining. I haven't seen the second part of Day 2 - it's on my DVR and I'll watch it later.

Interesting to see Ray Romano still kicking though. Anyone notice anything particularly exciting/noteworthy?

What do you call exciting? This is poker. A straight flush is exciting. Do you know what made me sick? To see ... oh crap I can't remember his name... the guy who got the Royal on day one. Anyway, he was getting a little roudy and he looked over at the rail and said 'are you jealous?' Now I hope to god he knew the guys standing there. It didn't look like it. And even so, that was absolutely uncalled for. You see, that is a product of online poker.

Looks like I spoke too soon! Just saw the second part of Day 2 and Ray Romano lost out to a flush against his 8s. Too bad the older Hinkle brother got knocked out - I wonder what the best siblings finishes have been at the Main Event? The only siblings I'm aware of are Annie Duke & Howard Lederer but not sure how they've faired. Just my random musings...

So I lost complete track of the WSOP Main Event coverage since the past week or so have been busy and I apparently didn't set my DVR to record. Anyone have any updates?
